BOO!

By , 25 October, 2011, No Comment

What’s that strange creaking sound in the library? No, it’s not the librarian’s knees…it’s little ghouls and goblins sneaking up on you!  Halloween is just about here, and that means spooky stories to share.  Don’t miss our special scary story time for little ones (and not so little ones) on Friday, October 28th at 11:00.  It’s a NO SCHOOL day, so siblings are welcome to join us. Don’t forget to visit the “Scary Librarian” on Halloween night during trick-or-treat hours to get your Halloween S’mores!  Happy Halloween!

Cathy Robertson is the Blair-Preston Public Library’s Quilter of the Month.  Cathy mixes modern techniques with her love of history, creating quilts that harken back to the Civil War era.  On display with Cathy’s quilts is her collection of Civil War reproduction fabrics, as well as samples of her cross stitch.  Cathy’s beautiful quilts will brighten up the library during the chill month of October, so enjoy!

New Horizons Clothesline Project

By , 2 October, 2011, No Comment

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and New Horizons Shelters and Outreach Centers has a unique project on display at the library this month.  The Clothesline Project was started in 1990 by a coalition of women’s groups in Massachusetts as a way of educating the public on the number of women who have experienced personal violence.  Any woman who has survived domestic abuse, such as emotional, verbal, physical or sexual abuse can decorate a shirt with her own message.  Friends and family of victims are also able to decorate shirts.  The shirts were chosen to be displayed on a clothesline since laundry has been considered to be women’s work and since women often shared secrets about their home life with their neighbor women while hanging up their laundry.  The Clothesline Project will be on display at the Blair-Preston Public library and other Trempealeau county libraries throughout the month of October.
