The De Soto Public Library holds a unique position in the De Soto Area. Within the confines of Wisconsin, we are the only public library within 25 miles in any direction, giving us the ability to serve the residents of De Soto, Red Mound, Retreat, Ferryville, Genoa, Victory, Stoddard and the rural areas between these locations.

Our book collection is now over 13,000 and includes adult fiction, children’s, juvenile, young adult and non-fiction sections.  Our DVD collection is at 1,900 and includes movies, documentaries, TV series, Classic movies, Westerns and more!

Our goal is to offer programs and services to the residents that will enrich their lives through book lending services, internet usage and other programming that will enhance our unique position as a community service.

How do I renew books online?

  2. Cheryl Russell says:

Good question! Since we don’t have the same “circulation software” as the majority of the Winding Rivers libraries, it can’t be done through the WRLS or La Crosse PL website, unfortunately. The easiest way is to email the library here directly at and let me know you’ll need items renewed. Since we don’t charge overdue fees here at DPL, it’s not a real crisis if you’re not exactly on time with requesting a renewal, but it does save me the time and postage if I don’t have to send you a postcard, so emailing is really encouraged.

Our updated software does have the capacity to email overdue notices if we have a current email for patrons. Since I only have emails for approximately 30% of our patrons, I am not really able to utilize this option as much as I’d like to. Hopefully in the future! Then, when you receive an e-mail with a notification, all you have to do is reply to the email with the word: “RENEW” in the subject line & I’ll take care of the rest!

Let me know if you have further questions! Thanks!
