Welcome to Independence Public Library!

Located in its original location in the Independence City Hall since 1908.

We’re bigger than we look…

We may be small but as part of the Winding Rivers System, we have access to the statewide collection of  books, movies, magazines, newspapers, music and audio books. If we don’t have what you are looking for, we will do our best to find it through interlibrary loan from across the state or even across the country.

It’s not just about books anymore…

In addition, our library offers public Internet access, including 24-7 wireless and free access to Ancestry.com and Overdrive digital books. We’ll help you trace your family tree, do a job search or create a resume. We’ll read stories to your kids, support your home schooling, make copies, print tax forms, send FAX and sometimes even serve coffee.

Watch our events page and the local newspaper for book-signings and visiting entertainers at the library, and don’t miss bargains on discarded books, movies and magazines always on sale in our ‘Weed Patch.”

SNOW DAYS  - We try our best to keep the library open it’s scheduled hours during the winter months, however due to inclement weather we sometimes open a little late, close a little early, or very rarely close altogether. In severe weather it is a good idea to call 715-985-3616 before facing the storm to come to the library.
