Children’s Programs

STORY TIME

storytime.animals.website.editedPreschool Story Time for children ages 3 to 5 is held every Wednesday at 10:00 AM. Story Time begins with Miss Helen reading from a variety of picture books and stories. Stories are followed by age-appropriate activities such as songs, games, and crafts.  Registration is not required for the program, however if you plan on being a regular attendee, it would be helpful to know.  Helen works very hard to prepare each week, and we want to be sure that we have enough materials available for everyone.

1000 BOOKS

BEFORE KINDERGARTEN

1000 books bus

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is an early literacy program designed to get children that are not yet in 5-year old Kindergarten ready to read.  Studies have shown that children who have had at least 1000 books read to them by the time they start Kindergarten are more likely to have success reading on their own than those children who have not been frequently read to.  Also, it is a wonderful way for parents, siblings, caregivers, and other relatives to bond with that child.  For each 100 books the child has read to them, bring back the book log sheet and get a prize.  There will be special prizes at 500 books and 1000 books.   Ask any staff member for more details and to get signed up.

MEGA BLOK MONDAYS

“Anxious parents may regard play as trivial, but studies of children around the world demonstrate that the social engagement of play actually sharpens intellectual skills.” – Hara Estroff Marano

So what does this mean?  It means that playing, with things like Mega Bloks, and making friends while playing with other kids can make your child smarter!  That’s why we offer the opportunity to come join other parents and kids each Monday for a morning of creative play with Mega Bloks.  The Mega Bloks program will begin at 10:00 a.m. each Monday morning.  We will also have stories or songs playing on the CD player, and you can take the opportunity to look through a look-and-find, put together a puzzle, color, or play a game with your little ones!

SUMMER READING

PROGRAM

fizzboomread

Each summer, the library offers a summer reading program for all grade-school age children; the program usually runs in the months of June and July.  The program promotes reading and assists students in maintaining reading skills over the summer.  Students record their own progress and may attend, if they wish, a weekly program of fun, reading-related, group activities at the library.  Small prizes are earned for attendance and for completing reading vouchers.

COPS for KIDS

C4K.slider.image.jpgOn the third Friday of each month, members of the Mondovi Police Department join together with the Kids of Mondovi to engage in various learning and playtime activities.  Kids learn how to get along with others in a social setting, and how to solve problems that can arise.  They also get to bond and develop trust with their community police officers, and hopefully develop a sense of respect for the job that police officers do.  This has been a fantastic program, and we hope that the great attendance numbers stay great!
