Friends of Shirley M. Wright Memorial Library Meeting Notes July 2, 2008 Special Catfish Days Kids & Family Tent
Present: Edye Hirner, Louise Janke, Linda Jenkins, Liz Webster, Peg Zappen, Judy Grant
Thank you to all who have already volunteered to help at the Kids & Family Tent this year!
There is a need for several additional volunteers for both Saturday (2:00 – 3:30 and 3:30 – 5:00) and Sunday (3:00 – 6:30, or some portion thereof). A number of our volunteers from previous years are unable to help this year. Sooo – if you, or someone you know, would be able to help out either or both days please contact the Library (534 -6197, ja.grant@wrlsweb.org) and add those names to the signup lists.
In response to the earlier (1:00 o’clock) parade start this year, there was considerable discussion as to whether Kids & Family Tent activities should begin at 3 p.m. rather than 4:00. At the suggestion of the Lions, this year the games will be open until 6:30, 1/2 hour later than previous years. So it would require either adding another shift of 10 workers, or extending the established shift by an hour. Decision was to open the games at 3 and extend the established shift, with adjustments as necessary. The entertainment schedule will remain as is, with 4 o’clock start and tea party with Miss Trempealeau at 5:30.
Decision on whether to have the Saturday performances by Hans Meyer and Clog Jam on the Trempealeau Hotel stage or in the tent on our stage will be made on Saturday, depending on weather and entertainers’ preferences.
We are excited that professional face painter, Theresa Cieminski, will be here again for all who want to take advantage of her skills. She will be donating 30% of her fees to Friends of the Library. Louise will put together promotional posters for distribution this week. Hans Meyer’s promotional posters were available and have been posted throughout the Village.
Peg reported receipt of additional business sponsorships, cash donation, and an in-kind donation of gift certificates.
Reminder: Meet Thursday, July 10, 6:30 p.m. to decorate and arrange in the Tent. Lots of willing hands and a step-ladder or two will be needed. Items will be brought from Lions Shed on Thursday afternoon, so we should be able to start right away. Come if you can!
Judy brought samples of tee shirt styles available as some wanted to have a lighter weight option.
Ballots for “Citizen of the Year” were tabulated and results sent to the Lions Club |
