Records Retention Workshop with Shannon Schultz

Shannon is the Public Library Administration Consultant with the Library Services Team at the Department of Public Instruction– she will present information and encourage discussion around keeping and trashing digital and paper files that could be considered public record– from emails to board minutes/agendas and a host of other documents. Learning objectives will include understanding what a record is, who is responsible for records, retention requirements and options, how to use a records retention schedule, and storage of records. All are welcome to attend. Have your questions ready!

CCBC Workshop

Thursday, April 28, 9 am-4 pm

Workshop held at Holmen Public Library (121 W. Legion St., Holmen, WI, 54636).

Join CCBC librarians Merri Lindgren and Megan Schliesman for this daylong workshop at the Holmen Public Library focusing on intellectual freedom in the morning, and featuring a presentation highlighting books from CCBC Choices 2022 in the afternoon. All of the CCBC Choices 2022 books will be available for hands-on book examination throughout the day.

Schedule:

9:15-11:45: Challenged Materials, Challenging Times: Focusing on the current discourse around books for children and teens and the increase in complaints and challenges, and how you can be better prepared to respond. All participants should bring their current,  board-approved reconsideration policy and related procedures.

11:45-1:00pm: Lunch

1:00pm-2:30pm: Great New Books for Children and Teens, featuring books in CCBC Choices 2022.

2:30pm-3:30pm: Browsing

This workshop will have a public library emphasis but school librarians and teachers are welcome to attend.

Join us for a tour of libraries– it will be like watching an episode of “Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous,” but IRL, more fun, and with some of the coolest library people you know! We’re working with a vendor to cater a sandwich/salad lunch– there will for sure be vegetarian and gluten-free options! No cost to you or your library! Post-Pandemic Space Analysis & Library Design is an interactive workshop that guides attendees through a day of learning on how social and behavioral changes from the COVID-19 pandemic affect the design and operation of libraries and other public institutions in the post-pandemic era.
As a participant, you will work both individually and in groups to work the implications of the pandemic for your library’s design and operation. Throughout the day, NYU professor and space planning expert David Vinjamuri and architect Alex Ramsey will provide insights, best practices and tools to help you think clearly about your library’s current situation and create a plan to continue to adapt your space and your staff to the needs of the post-pandemic patron.
