Knutson Memorial Library
“A Window to the World”
August at the Library
The summer is going really fast…can you believe August is here already? For many adults, August means beginning to think about school shopping; for many kids, August is a boring pause before school activities start again. If that is the case, Knutson Memorial Library has the cure for you! We have planned several fun programs especially for elementary and middle school kids during the weeks of August.
This week – August 16, 17, & 18, we will have Lego “Camp” from 4:30-6:00 on each of the three days. This is your chance to try building that special world you designed on paper the previous week! We will also have a daily “Challenge Build” and play games involving legos. All building supplies will be provided and your creations will be displayed at the library; they will not be yours to keep. Kids can come to one day of the “camp” or attend all three – each day will have different activities.
Monday, August 22, at 2:00, will be the second “Crafternoon” program for kids in grades 4-12. This activity will involve “painting” tiles with alcohol inks…possibly a bit messy so don’t wear good clothes! This type of “painting” tends to be rather abstract, but the results are spectacular. All supplies will be provided, except a painting shirt if you would like to bring one.
The big library event for adults in August (in addition to the regular schedule of programs at Knutson Library) is the visit of Minnesota author William Kent Krueger on August 25 at 6:30 in the Viroqua Elementary School Cafetorium. This free event is sponsored by all nine Vernon County libraries as a conclusion to the summer’s book discussions of Krueger’s book “Ordinary Grace” at the different libraries. New York Times bestseller, “Ordinary Grace”, is a riveting, suspenseful read…if you haven’t enjoyed it yet, stop by a Vernon County library and check it out…then plan to meet the author on August 25th!
